Hotels change: ownership, management, and maintenance standards shift over time. A property with great reviews from two years ago can have declined since. Sort reviews by “most recent” and focus on the last few months for an accurate picture of current conditions.
Verify the actual location on a map
“City center” is a marketing term, not a precise distance. Check the pin on a map against where you actually need to be, and note the distance to public transport if you’re not renting a car. This matters especially in destinations where “downtown” is loosely defined.
Read the cancellation policy before, not after, booking
